With winter weather upon us and fewer hours of daylight each day, University Police would like to remind the campus community to remain aware of their surroundings at all times—both on and off campus—and to take advantage of a number of free shuttle and escort services available to Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff.
Unfortunately, the winter months, and in particular, the weeks leading up to the holiday season, are a time of year when crime looks for opportunity. UPD encourages you to always be vigilant and practice these personal safety tips. Remember, it is always a good idea to walk with a friend or group of individuals, particularly during evening and early morning hours.
Students, faculty, and staff are also reminded to take advantage of the safe escort programs available. UPD provides a walking companion or a ride on campus free of charge, 24 hours a day. A personal walking escort to your car or residence hall can be requested by calling University Police at ext. 6333 (878-6333) from a campus or blue-light phone. The escort shuttle van runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. daily and can be tracked via the SmartTraxx app from your mobile device. More information is available online at https://police.buffalostate.edu/safe-escort-programs.
Additionally, students living at off-campus apartment complexes Monarch 716 and Collegiate Village are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle services for complex residents.
If you ever feel unsafe or observe suspicious activity on campus, please do not hesitate to call University Police at (716) 878-6333.
